Word search maker — free printable puzzles with answer key
Type your words, choose a grid from 10×10 to 20×20 and download a ready-to-print PDF with the answer key on its own page. Great for spelling lists, holidays, birthdays and classrooms.
How to make a word search
- Type a title and your words — one per line or separated by commas. Spaces and punctuation are removed automatically (“ice cream” becomes ICECREAM).
- Pick a grid size. 10×10 suits 6–10 short words for young kids; 15×15 fits about 20 words; 20×20 fits 30+.
- Choose directions. Across and down are easiest; diagonal and backwards make the puzzle harder.
- Press Shuffle until you like the layout, then download the PDF. Page 2 is the answer key with every word highlighted.
Ideas for word lists
- This week’s spelling or vocabulary words
- Holiday words for a class party (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
- Names of everyone at a birthday party or family reunion
- Science or history unit vocabulary
- Words in a new language you are learning
Words longer than the grid can’t fit and are listed under the form, so you can shorten them or pick a bigger grid.
