Cursive writing practice sheets
Once the letters are easy, practice them where they belong — in words and sentences. Each sheet shows a dark model line, a gray line to trace and space to write it yourself.

How to use the sentence sheets
- Read the sentence out loud first.
- Trace the gray line slowly, keeping the pencil on the paper inside each word.
- Lift the pencil only between words, then cross t's and dot i's at the end of the word.
- Write the sentence on the empty line without looking at the gray copy.
Which sheet to start with
Beginners do best with the short sentences: three to five common words, all with easy joins. Pangrams use every letter of the alphabet at least once, so they are a quick check for letters a child hasn't mastered yet. Days and months practice capital letters, and the paragraph sheets build speed and spacing for older students.
- Trace sheets: ages 7–9, after learning the cursive alphabet.
- Copy sheets: when tracing feels easy and the letters are formed correctly.
- Your own text: weekly spelling words, a favorite poem or a thank-you note draft.
Still learning single letters? Start with the cursive alphabet or a letter-by-letter page. For a name, use cursive name tracing; for print handwriting, see the alphabet tracing worksheets.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good sentence to practice cursive?
“The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” contains every letter of the alphabet, which makes it the classic practice sentence. Short everyday sentences such as “I can write in cursive” are easier for beginners.
How long should cursive practice take each day?
Ten to fifteen minutes a day is plenty — one sheet traced carefully is worth more than three rushed ones.
Can I type my own sentences?
Yes. Type up to 400 characters and the sheet wraps the text onto handwriting lines automatically. The text is only used to draw your PDF and isn't stored.
