How the maze generator works

Each maze is a grid of cells joined into a single tree of passages, so there is exactly one route between any two points — no loops, no shortcuts. “Long winding paths” uses a depth-first (recursive backtracker) algorithm that makes long corridors; “Many short dead ends” uses Prim's algorithm, which branches constantly and looks busier but is usually quicker to solve.

Every maze has a number. The same number with the same settings always gives the same maze, so you can share the link or print a second copy for a whole class.
