Teaching tips for kindergarten

Read the story aloud first, pointing to each word. Then read each question and the choices together and let your child circle the answer. Kindergarten passages use many Dolch sight words (a, the, is, he, she, in, on) — pair them with our sight word worksheets.

Other grades: 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade. See all reading comprehension worksheets and the kindergarten sight word worksheets.

Frequently asked questions

Are the reading passages free to print for my class?

Yes. Print as many copies as you need for home or classroom use.

Do the worksheets include answer keys?

Yes. Every PDF ends with an answer key; inference questions are marked so you can accept other reasonable answers.

How were the grade levels chosen?

By passage length, sentence length and vocabulary typical for each grade's reading standards. Children read at different levels, so try the grade below or above if a passage feels too easy or too hard.
