How the worksheets are built
Every passage was written for Linecraft — no copyrighted or adapted text. Kindergarten passages are 3–5 short sentences with circle-the-answer questions; 1st grade passages are about 50–60 words; 2nd grade about 100; 3rd grade about 180–200 words, mixing stories and nonfiction.
Each worksheet has 4 or 5 questions. Most ask about something stated in the text (who, what, where, when); at least one asks students to infer — to use clues to work out something the text does not say directly. The answer key marks inference questions, where any reasonable, text-based answer should count.
Tips for reading practice
- Read the title and predict what the passage is about.
- Read the passage twice: once for fun, once to look for details.
- Underline the sentence that answers each literal question.
- For inference questions, ask: what clues in the text help me?
- Kindergarten: read the passage aloud together, then let the child circle the answers.
More reading practice: sight words for kindergarten, ABC cards and word searches.
Frequently asked questions
Are the reading passages free to print for my class?
Yes. Print as many copies as you need for home or classroom use.
Do the worksheets include answer keys?
Yes. Every PDF ends with an answer key; inference questions are marked so you can accept other reasonable answers.
How were the grade levels chosen?
By passage length, sentence length and vocabulary typical for each grade's reading standards. Children read at different levels, so try the grade below or above if a passage feels too easy or too hard.
