Glitch text generator — creepy Zalgo text to copy and paste
Type a word, turn the intensity up or down, choose marks above, through or below the letters, and copy the glitched text with one tap.
In short: Glitch text, also called Zalgo or cursed text, piles Unicode combining marks on top of, through and under each letter until it looks corrupted: G̷̢̛l̸̨i̵̢t̶̛c̷̨h̸̡. This generator lets you set how heavy it gets (1–10), which directions the marks go, and a seed, so the same settings always give the same text and a shared link reproduces it. Subtle, creepy and maximum-chaos presets sit below, followed by 35 other fancy styles.
Glitch text controls
Presets
- Subtle glitch
A few marks above and below; still easy to read - Creepy
Dripping marks below, a few through the letters - Maximum chaos
Everything at full intensity; may spill over nearby lines
Glitch marks are made for screens and do not print well. For letters on paper, use the gothic font generator or the weird font generator, which print your words as big letters to color.

What is glitch text and how does it work?
Unicode has a block of “combining diacritical marks” (U+0300 to U+036F): accents, dots, tildes, bars and hooks that attach to the character before them. Normally a letter carries one, like the accent in é. Glitch or Zalgo text stacks many of them on every letter, some drawn above, some through the middle and some below, so they spill out of the line and the word looks broken or haunted. The result is still plain text: the letters you typed are all there, in order, with extra marks after each one, so it pastes into Discord, TikTok, Instagram and most apps. This generator only uses marks from that one block, picks them with a seeded random generator (same settings and seed, same text) and leaves spaces, punctuation and emoji alone. Light settings stay readable; heavy settings add up to 23 marks per letter and can cover the lines above and below.
- Marks only from Combining Diacritical Marks (U+0300–U+036F)
- Intensity 1–10: up to 10 marks above, 3 through and 10 below each letter
- Settings are saved in the link (?i=&up=&mid=&down=&seed=)
- Presets: subtle glitch, creepy, maximum chaos
How to make glitch text
Type your text
A word or short name works best; long sentences get very long once every letter carries marks.
Set the intensity
Light (1–3) stays readable, medium (4–7) looks corrupted, heavy (8–10) spills over the lines around it.
Choose directions
Toggle marks above, through the middle or below. Below only looks like dripping; middle only looks scratched.
Copy or reroll
Tap Copy glitch text, or Randomize for a new pattern. Copy the page link to share the exact same settings.
Where does glitch text work?
| Place | What happens |
|---|---|
| Discord messages, nicknames, server names | Shows fully; heavy marks can cover the message above. Messages are capped at 2,000 characters, and every mark counts |
| TikTok bio, captions and comments | Usually shows; long or heavy text may be cut short |
| Instagram bio, captions and comments | Shows, but heavy text often gets trimmed or flattened; keep it light |
| X, YouTube, Facebook | Usually shows; very heavy text may be shortened or filtered as spam |
| Usernames, games, school and work apps | Often blocked, stripped back to plain letters or turned into boxes |
Because each mark is its own character, glitch text is much longer than it looks: “Glitch” at intensity 10 can be 100+ characters. If a bio or name field cuts it off, lower the intensity or turn off one direction. Some apps and servers filter Zalgo text on purpose because it can break layouts; respect those rules.
Presets: subtle, creepy or maximum chaos
| Preset | Settings | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Subtle glitch | Intensity 2, above + below | Usernames on Discord, aesthetic bios, a single word in a caption |
| Creepy | Intensity 6, middle + below | Halloween posts, horror game names, spooky story titles |
| Maximum chaos | Intensity 10, all directions | Memes and jokes in chats that allow it; may spill over other lines |
Need a light glitch on every word without settings? The Glitch row in the style list is the original fixed version: exactly two marks per letter, always the same for the same text.
Glitch text and screen readers
Screen readers either skip combining marks or read them one by one (“combining tilde, combining grave accent…”), so heavy glitch text can turn one word into a minute of noise for blind and low-vision readers. Search also fails: nobody can find a glitched name by typing it. Use it for a word or two of decoration, never for the important part of a message, and put dates, links and instructions in plain text.
Can you print glitch text?
Not well. The marks are drawn by the reader’s font and pile up outside the line, so on paper they look like smudges. This page has no print option; for letters on paper, the gothic and weird font generators print your words as big outline letters to color.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get creepy glitch text?
Type your text, pick the Creepy preset (or set the intensity to 5 or more with Middle and Below on), then tap Copy. Marks below the letters look like drips; marks through the middle look like scratches.
Why is it called Zalgo text?
Zalgo is the name of an internet horror meme from the late 2000s whose captions were written in this corrupted-looking text. The name stuck to the technique. The marks themselves are ordinary Unicode accents.
Does glitch text work on Discord?
Yes. Discord shows combining marks in messages, nicknames and server names. Heavy settings can cover the message above, and each mark counts toward the 2,000-character message limit. Some servers use bots that delete Zalgo text.
Why did my glitch text get cut off on Instagram or TikTok?
Every mark is a separate character, so glitch text is far longer than it looks and can hit the bio or name length limit. Some apps also trim stacked marks. Lower the intensity or switch off one direction and copy again.
How do I remove glitch from text?
The letters you typed are still there in order, with marks after each one. Any “remove accents” or “strip diacritics” tool deletes the combining marks and gives back the original text, or just retype the word.
Can I share the exact same glitch text?
Yes. The pattern comes from a seed. Every change, including Randomize, updates the page link, so whoever opens your link and types the same words gets exactly the same glitch.
Is the glitch text generator free?
Yes. Every setting, preset and style is free, with no sign-up. The text is made in your browser and never sent to us.
