How do you make italic text to copy and paste?
Type your text in the box above. The first rows are the italic styles: serif italic (๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐), bold italic (๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ), sans italic (๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ), sans bold italic (๐๐ก๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐) and the flowing script slant. Tap Copy next to the one you like and paste it anywhere that accepts text. These are not formatting: each letter is a separate Unicode character from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block that already leans to the right, so the slant survives in apps that strip bold and italic formatting. Serif italic has no italic digits, so numbers stay upright there; the bold italic and sans styles use matching bold or sans digits. The lowercase h in serif italic comes from an older Unicode block (โ), which is why it can look slightly different.

- Works in Instagram, TikTok, Discord and X
- Punctuation and emoji pass through unchanged

Italic styles and where they show up
| Style | Looks like | TikTok | Discord | X | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Serif italic | ๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ | โ | โ | โ | โ |
| Bold italic | ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐ | โ | โ | โ | โ |
| Sans italic | ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ | โ | โ | โ | โ |
| Sans bold italic | ๐๐ก๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ | โ | โ | โ | โ |
| Script (cursive slant) | ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐๐โฏ๐น | โ | โ | โ | โ |
All five come from Unicode blocks that current iPhones, Android phones, Windows and Mac computers can draw. Usernames and handles are the exception: they only accept plain letters, so put the italic version in your display name or bio instead.
Italic text vs. real italic formatting
In a word processor, italic is formatting: the letters stay the same and the font draws them slanted. Social apps usually strip that formatting, which is why copied italics turn upright. Unicode italic letters are different characters, so they stay slanted anywhere โ but screen readers may read them oddly and search will not match them. Use them for a word or a short phrase, and keep names you want people to find in plain letters.
Discord also has its own markdown italics: wrap text in *asterisks* or _underscores_. That is real formatting, readable by screen readers, and the better choice inside Discord messages; Unicode italics are for nicknames, server names and places where markdown does not work.
Where can you paste fancy fonts?
These are not real fonts. Each letter is swapped for a Unicode character that already looks styled, so the result is plain text that pastes into almost any app. Whether a style shows up depends on the fonts installed on the phone or computer that reads it:
| Place | What usually works |
|---|---|
| Instagram bio, captions, comments | Most styles. Names allow them too, but they are harder to search for |
| TikTok bio and captions | Most styles; the username field accepts plain letters only |
| Discord messages, nicknames, server names | Most styles; combining lines (strikethrough, underline) can stack oddly |
| X, Facebook, Threads, YouTube comments | Most styles |
| Text messages and email | Depends on the receiving phone; older Android phones may show boxes |
| Usernames, passwords, school portals | Usually blocked or turned back into plain letters |
If a friend sees empty boxes (โก) or question marks, their device has no glyph for that character. Script, bold, italic, gothic and bubble styles are the safest; look-alike โweirdโ styles and stacked marks are the most likely to break.
Use fancy text kindly
Screen readers read many of these characters one by one (โmathematical bold script capital Hโฆโ) or skip them, and search boxes rarely match them. Keep fancy text for a name, a heading or a few words, and write the important part (dates, links, how to reach you) in plain letters.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write in italics on Instagram?
Instagram has no italic button. Type your text here, copy the serif italic or sans italic style and paste it into your bio, caption or comment. It stays slanted because the letters themselves are italic characters.
What is a slanted text generator?
Another name for an italic text generator: it swaps each letter for a Unicode character that leans to the right. This page shows five slanted styles at once.
Why are numbers not italic?
Unicode has no italic digits. Serif and sans italic keep plain numbers; bold italic and sans bold italic use matching bold digits.
Can I use italic text on X (Twitter)?
Yes. X has no italic formatting, but Unicode italic characters display in posts, replies and your display name. They count as one character each toward the limit, like normal letters.
Why do some letters show up as boxes?
The app or phone reading your text has no font with that character. Your text is fine; it just cannot be drawn there. Pick a script, bold or bubble style, which almost every device supports.
Is this font generator free?
Yes. Every style, the copy button and the printable PDFs are free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The text is converted in your browser and is never sent to us.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Type your text, tap Copy next to the style you like, then long-press in Instagram, TikTok or Discord and paste.
